Car lengths

Need to know how long a car is? I can tell you, just by looking at it. In a fraction of a second. But seriously.

Try me.

Volkswagen Jetta: 14.5 ft
Ford F-150: 16.5 (no cab) 17.5 (Dual cab) ft
PT Cruiser: 14.3 ft
Honda Civic: before about 2006: 14 ft. After: 15 ft
Chevy Blazer: 15 ft
Geo Metro: 13 ft.
Dodge Ram, extended cab and bed: 22 ft
Semi-truck, regular size: 60 ft
etc etc etc

I just did all those off the top of my head.

How, you are asking yourself, did I gain such a useful skill set? I have been carefully honing my skills at work, hour after hour, looking at cars and then recording their lengths.

See, I work for a company that does traffic sensors. The sensor will record the length, speed, and lane of a car (don't worry, it doesn't record the license plate). In order for us to measure how accurate our sensor records lengths, we have to know how long the car actually is, and then we can compare that to what our sensor recorded. Well, someone has to go through hours of video tape and carefully record the exact length of each car. And that person is me.

So, keep hitting me.

Jeep Wrangler: 14 ft
Jeep Liberty: 15 ft
Jeep Cherokee: 15 ft
Chevy Suburban: 19 ft
etc etc etc

I just keep dreaming that someday this meaningless skill will come in incredibly handy.

ha ha ha... Darrell, you are too funny. I am sure it will come in handy.... when you least expect it. Until then, you can just bring it up out of nowhere and see if it impresses anyone.

Are you one of those guys who I see sitting out in the weeds with a video camera on each side of the street? Or is that just a stalker?
