So this morning I took full advantage of an opportunity to make a fool of myself. I never like to let these opportunities slip through my fingers.
The morning begins as usual. Wake up late, get ready, walk downstairs, get lunch from the fridge. I walk out to the car... which isn't there. Anywhere. Its gone. I had a very clear memory of where I parked it when I came home from work, and it wasn't there. It was gone.
I stay cool. I'm the type of person that people from Henefer would say "He'd forget his head if it wasn't attached to his shoulders" and I am fully cognizant of this fact, so I stay cool. I'm like 'surely I moved it and parked it somewhere I don't remember'. So I walk around and try and think what happened. Nothing. Nothing.
After about 5 minutes of this, I come to the realization that my car has now likely been stolen. I sometimes don't lock my car (Oops) and now I was paying the penalty. I get out my phone and call Provo Dispatch. They send over an officer.
This whole time my mind is going a hundred miles an hour, trying to think if I might have taken an evening excursion yesterday and not remembered. The only place I went was to a chapel next to my house last night... but my roommate Stan drove. Surely he drove. I remember that he drove. Right? Yes, surely he drove.
I think it was sometime when I was scanning through my Geico Insurance Policy when it hit me: I had driven the night before. I had gone to the chapel and promptly forgotten that I had driven, and proceeded to get a ride home with someone else. Which caused my car to still be parked at that parking lot.
After calling back the Dispatch and apologizing, my roommate was kind enough to give me a ride to recover my.... stolen.... car.
Wow. That really just happened.

ha ha ha ha ha DARRELL!!! How could you forget you drove? You are so funny. At least you can laugh at yourself.
I thought with a title like Total. Moron. It would be a post about me. But oh, you're right you're a total moron. Of course I mean that in the nicest possible way :)
This story just brightened my day. And I'm glad your car wasn't really stolen.
This is CLASSIC! I definitely needed a laugh today. I'm glad it was you, not me. Did I ever tell you about the time that my roommate stole a car on accident... she got in a car identical to hers, (opened it with her own key even) and drove home not realizing that it was someone else's car. Then the cops showed up... maybe that will make you feel slightly better. hehehe
Thanks for sharing, Darrell. That was funny.

I remember hearing about a VP of a company who would get his rental car from the airport for a business trip and would then take a taxi back the airport at the end of the trip. A few weeks later the company would receive a call from the rental car company...
