NYC part 1

Melodie and I went to NYC last week.  I know you have all been dying to get the details.

We left early Wednesday and got to NYC late that night.  We were going to do something cool that night, but we were mostly just tired so we just went to bed.  Yea.  That's how we roll.

Thursday we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  I was expecting it to be like a 4 out of 10, but I will say that it exceeded expectation.  It was more like a 7 out of 10 for me.  I was mostly blown away that I actually RECOGNIZED some of the paintings.  You know its famous if I actually recognize it.  I probably can recognize 20-30 paintings in the world.  Welp, some of them were there.  Its very interesting to be browsing an art gallery half-asleep and then come across a painting where you are like 'I saw that paining in a book'!  And its by this French dude whose name I think I recognize!  So that was a good experience.  P.S. I swear half the Met is just painted vases.  Vases from everywhere.  I tried to skip as many vases as possible.
We then walked around Central Park a little, then Melodie went shopping, as is her want.  I was ok with it too, because I needed a break.  My feet were killing me.  In fact, my feet were killing me about 90% of the time.  Not used to all that walking.
Thursday night we went and saw Wicked.  New favorite musical (except Les Miserables, but that goes without saying).  It was fantastic.  The story was fun, the music was great, all around good.

Friday we went and saw the Statue and Ellis Island.  Funny story:  We stood in the eternal security line next to a couple visiting from Paris.  They were both learning English, and were eager to chat with us.  They liked New York, but they said it was "very different" from where they lived.  I told them New York was very different from everywhere.  They didn't like the food here; they thought the people were nice; I told them about my mission to Brazil where I learned Portuguese; we told them about the tiny town we come from; they told us about how they had three kids (triplets); etc etc etc. We had a great chat.  There was also a sarcastic British dude behind them that kept interjecting with comments during our conversation.  At first I thought it was annoying, but then I realized that it was really funny.  So many stereotypes playing out.
Friday night we went and had dinner with one of my old roomies.

Saturday we went to the Museum of Modern Art. There was a lot of good stuff there, but there was a lot of DUMB stuff there too.  Some of the art was downright idiotic.  I wanted to go up to some of the people admiring the art and say "Do you really understand this, or are you just pretending??"  But seriously.
Then Melodie did more shopping.  As is her want.
Then that night we went to Phantom of the Opera.  I like Phantom.  Music is great; story line is creepy.  It was a great bookend to our vacation.

We flew back super early and spent most of Sunday in a daze.  At least I did.  Its good to be back.  Me and big cities are only casual acquaintances.  If I had to live in NYC, I would probably last about... a week.  If that.

It seems to me that the title of this post implies there will be a Part 2. But somehow it sounds like you already completed talking about your entire vacation.

Hmmmm, very tricky, Darrell.
