I know a lot of people are going to think this is weird. I'm prepared for that.
For a long time I have had an idea of selling something online. I have read a lot of books about it, researched it, even attended a little class on it. I am really interested in Search Engine Optimization stuff, which is the process of getting your site to rank well in search engines. I have also figured out how to build websites. I have bought lots of books on these topics and researched it a lot. All I needed was something to sell.
We all know that my dad has been into beekeeping for the last few years. An unusual hobby, for sure, but one that is catching on quickly. There are a lot more beekeepers out there than you would think. In fact, as I have begun to tell people about this new project, people often respond with "Oh, my uncle/cousin/neighbor is a beekeeper."
So thus the idea got started. What if I sold beehives online? Ecommerce generally works best with a niche market. It would be something that I could have made close to home; there are plenty of carpenters looking for work nearby. Beehives can be stored for a long time and can be mailed. It seemed like a good idea. So I'm doing it!
I called the site Lost Creek Bees because some of our beehives are kept up Lost Creek Canyon where my grandpa owns land. You can now visit my "Buy a Beehive" page or my Pictures of Beehives page. The About the Beekeepers page is still being worked on, but you can visit it anyways. And if you want to buy a beehive, go ahead and order. They are still being made but will be done soon.
So there you go. I'll keep you updated on how it goes!

Very impressive Dar! Are you the web admin. too? I checked out the website. Great job.
This is VERY cool Darrell!!! I thought for a minute you were going to tell us about your new calling :)
I like it, Darl. I admire how ambitious you are.
When you've got some dough rolling in, you should toss a bone to a professional web programmer/graphic artist to brand your little company and redesign your site. It's great for now, but I would reformat the pages a bit to look a little more crisp.
By the way, I would like to order 100 bees to be delivered to my friend Lloydel's house.
Is there no end to the interesting things you have up your sleeve?
The beehives really are beautiful and I hope you get a lot of people interested. I also realized that niche sites do better, and that's why I'm working on Blabbergasted (http://blabbergastedblog.blogspot.com) right now. It'll be interesting to see where both our sites are in a year.
Glad you found your honey, Darrell.
